With two weeks until the start of the NFL season, let’s break down and predict all the Week 1 matchups. Odds and lines pulled on August 23rd 2022.
Thursday September 8th @ 8:20 PM: Buffalo Bills (-132) @ LA Rams (+109) Spread: -2.5 O/U: 52
Bo’s Pick: BUF | ATS: BUF -2.5
The 2022 NFL Season kicks off with an instant classic. This is a potential Super Bowl preview in Week 1 and Josh Allen and the high flying Bills offense should show up and show out. They are still furious for losing to the Chiefs due to a coin flip, and they are on a revenge tour this season. While I am not a believer that it will end in a championship for them, I do think they will start strong. People will overreact and say the Rams are having a Super Bowl hangover, but that is not the case. I am not sure anybody can beat the furious Bills in a Week 1 matchup.
Sunday September 11th @ 1:00 PM: PHI Eagles (-196) @ DET Lions (+158) Spread: -3.5 O/U: 48.5
Bo’s Pick: PHI | ATS: PHI -3.5
Neither of these teams are top-tier (at least not yet, @Eagles) but these are both teams I am expecting major improvements from this year. The Lions offense could actually be decent-ish this season, however I don’t see it keeping up with the Eagles excellent defense and a hopefully much-improved offense as well. This is a dream Week 1 matchup for the Eagles, as they get a pretty bad defense to carve up and give Hurts and co. some confidence to build off of. I am expecting something like a 27-17 or 27-21 score for this contest.
Sunday September 11th @ 1:00 PM: SF 49ers (-300) @ CHI Bears (+234) Spread: -7 O/U: 41.5
Bo’s Pick: SF | ATS: CHI +7
The Bears are not going to be good this year. They are bottom-5 for me without a doubt, and could end up even worse than that. I am very low on Fields and I don’t see much good on the team outside of a decent running game. That being said, I am also not expecting Trey Lance to be all that good in Week 1. I think the surrounding pieces will be more than enough to win this game but I don’t see it being a blowout. I am envisioning something near a 17-14 game that isn’t as close of a game as the score would indicate. I will acknowledge that there is a chance the niners get ahead and their running game pounds the Bears into oblivion, in which case they could win by 10+ easily.
Sunday September 11th @ 1:00 PM: PIT Steelers (+232) @ CIN Bengals (-300) Spread: -6.5 O/U: 44.5
Bo’s Pick: CIN | ATS: PIT +6.5
This one is interesting. I like the Bengals, I like Joey B. I think the Steelers will be mediocre at best this season. However, I am expecting some regression for the Bengals and I think the Steelers defense will keep this game competitive even with very little help on the offensive side. Again, this could end up being a blowout, but given that it is early in the season and this is a divisional game, I am thinking the Steelers keep it within a score.
Sunday September 11th @ 1:00 PM: NE Patriots (+118) @ MIA Dolphins (-144) Spread: -3 O/U: 44.5
Bo’s Pick: MIA | ATS: NE +3
Same sort of logic as the last game here, I think the Dolphins are far better than the Pats but I think the Pats will keep it competitive based on their defense, as well as me not being a huge Tua fan. It is Week 1, I am not expecting the fins to be rolling yet, I will take them winning an 18-17 game.
Sunday September 11th @ 1:00 PM: CLE Browns (-102) @ CAR Panthers (-120) Spread: -1.5 O/U: 41.5
Bo’s Pick: CAR | ATS: CAR -1.5
Baker’s revenge match. I think this will be Baker’s best game of the season, and the Browns worst loss of the year as well. I will take the Panthers even with a 4-5 point spread. DJ Moore is poised to be a beast in week 1 in my mind.
Sunday September 11th @ 1:00 PM: IND Colts (-409) @ HOU Texans (+300) Spread: -8 O/U: 44
Bo’s Pick: IND | ATS: IND -8
Colts good. Texans bad. Not much to look at here, Matty Ice will be an upgrade at QB, although I don’t think he will do much this game, they will run the ball a ton and win by multiple touchdowns. The Texans just have no chance unless Ryan throws 3 picks. Even then, I think I would take the Colts…..
Sunday September 11th @ 1:00 PM: NO Saints (-226) @ ATL Falcons (+181) Spread: -4.5 O/U: 41
Bo’s Pick: NO | ATS: NO -4.5
Winston is back and likely so are his long balls. Callaway, Thomas, Olave, someone will catch a homerun ball. Maybe Kamara will break off a big run. Perhaps it will be the other side and Patterson or London will make a big play. Either way, I am expecting a huge chunk play this game, as well as for the Saints to win with relative ease. The Falcons have no defensive presence at all and will not be slowing the Saints down. Mariota isn’t what he used to be either.
Sunday September 11th @ 1:00 PM: BAL Ravens (-340) @ NY Jets (+260) Spread: -7 O/U: 44
Bo’s Pick: BAL | ATS: BAL -7
Jets may not have Wilson back by Week 1, but Flacco is no chump and honestly it would be a revenge match for him, so watch out. Pending a miracle however, I will take the Ravens run game to run all over the Jets and win this game easily. Dobbins is going to rack up some serious fantasy points if he is back in time.
Sunday September 11th @ 1:00 PM: JAC Jaguars (+149) @ WAS Commanders (-184) Spread: -3.5 O/U: 44
Bo’s Pick: WAS | ATS: WAS -3.5
The Jaguars are going to be bad again. The Commanders will be mediocre. But they have better defensive and offensive weapons than the Jags. Wentz is not good by any stretch, but he is serviceable. I am more betting against the Jags than betting on the Commanders. I think the Commanders play fine, and the Jags play poorly.
Sunday September 11th @ 4:25 PM: GB Packers (-132) @ MIN Vikings (+109) Spread: -2.5 O/U: 48
Bo’s Pick: GB | ATS: GB -2.5
I actually think the Packers will take a leap back without Adams, and that the Vikings have an outside chance at winning the division. However, I am not going to take the Vikings beating the Packers head to head, at least not yet. Without more evidence of a collapse, I think Rodgers and whatever mediocre receivers he trots out there can dismantle the Cousins-led Vikings team. It could be the other way around by the second time they play, though.
Sunday September 11th @ 4:25 PM: NY Giants (+191) @ TEN Titans (-239) Spread: -5.5 O/U: 44
Bo’s Pick: TEN | ATS: TEN -5.5
King Henry will run all over the Giants to the point where Tannehill’s ‘meh’ passing game will be irrelevant in this one. Don’t get over confident though Titans fans, it will be downhill this season. Better hope Henry stays healthy.
Sunday September 11th @ 4:25 PM: LV Raiders (+157) @ LA Chargers (-196) Spread: -4 O/U: 52
Bo’s Pick: LAC | ATS: LV +4
This game will be uber-close, just as it was last season in the final week. Yes, the Chargers got better, but so did the Raiders. I lean Chargers win but not nearly enough to take them by 4. This game will be close, and I wouldn’t be shocked if it went to OT again.
Sunday September 11th @ 4:25 PM: KC Chiefs (-186) @ ARI Cardinals (+151) Spread: -3.5 O/U: 53.5
Bo’s Pick: KC | ATS: ARI +3.5
I am very high on the Cardinals this season and think that they could actually make a run in the playoffs if they get there. However, it’s week 1. D-Hop is out. It’s the Chiefs. They may not have Hill anymore, but this Chiefs offense is still dangerous and it will be more than the Cardinals can keep up with. I think it lights a fire under them to be better this season though, so it’s good news. Let’s just hope it doesn’t depress Kyler to the point where he crashes and burns instantly.
Sunday September 11th @ 8:20 PM: TB Bucs (-110) @ DAL Cowboys (-110) Spread: PK O/U: 50.5
Bo’s Pick: TB | ATS: TB PK
This is a close game and it could certainly go either way, but even after losing a couple weeks of potential Tom Brady practices, I think the Bucs win this one. I don’t think it’s by much, but Brady has the clutch factor over Dak in close games.
Monday September 12th @ 8:15 PM: DEN Broncos (-248) @ SEA Seahawks (+196) Spread: -5.5 O/U: 42
Bo’s Pick: DEN | ATS: DEN -5.5
This is a great game, but not because it will be close. It won’t be. It’s great because Russ gets to show the Seahawks how dumb they were to not keep him around. Give me Broncos 35-17.
