Waiver Wire Target: Colin Moran

The Pittsburgh Pirates have DFAed left handed hitting first baseman Colin Moran, exposing him to waivers tomorrow. As much as I would love to see the Red Sox bring in a Schwarber or a Rizzo, I am expecting that they will likely try to penny pinch again this off-season. If that is the route they choose to go, Moran is a guy I would say is worth taking a shot on. He’s not expensive, yet he’s a veteran-ish left-handed hitting option to platoon at first base with Bobby D. He doesn’t have a ton of pop but through September 1st last season was batting .285, before he hit a massive slump and dropped it down below .250. Moran is not an amazing defender but has pretty good splits as a left hander. He would be cheap and might be worth taking a flyer on. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him have a resurgence with another club this season.
