Well, the second domino in the starting pitching market has fallen. Thor has signed a 1 year, $21M deal with the Los Angeles Angels. The Angels desperately needing starting pitching this offseason, likely at least 2 starters. They got their first one in Noah Syndergaard, who missed all of last season recovering from surgery and is a high-risk/high-reward signing. He is signed only for a season to essentially prove he is still healthy and the pitcher he used to be. The Angels are hoping he is and that he can help them finally get into the postseason. If he can return to his pre-injury form, he would slot in as their number 1 starter, pending other additions. I would look for them to sign at least one other this offseason, likely a more frontline starter. I would watch out for Robbie Ray…
I also would now expect the Dodgers to be the next team to quickly sign a starter to make sure they don’t miss out on everybody. I would expect them to sign a SP in the next couple weeks. However, the next overall signing still could be Semien, who is rumored to be wanting to sign sooner rather than later.
