The Reds have struck a deal to trade their veteran catcher Tucker Barnhart to the Detroit Tigers. They will be receiving prospect Nick Quintana from the Tigers as compensation.
Barnhart batted .247 this season with a modest 7 HR and 48 RBIs in 116 games for the Reds. He is however a standout defensive catcher and a potential veteran leader for the young Tigers roster. He has a $7.5M team option for 2022 that the Tigers assumedly will pick up.
Quintana is a former 2nd round pick in 2019 who has struggled in the minors, but is only 24 and still has some potential the Reds are hoping to unlock.
