The New York Mets have now won the offseason. They caught the biggest fish and they certainly paid for it. They have agreed to terms with future hall of famer Max Scherzer and agreed to give him a record-shattering 3 year, $130M contract with a staggering $43M AAV. This is massive and immediately boosts the Mets to one of the biggest contenders in the NL. It remains to be seen whether Scherzer or DeGrom will be the #1 starter for the Mets, but my guess is with that amount of money, it will be Mad Max. Before this signing, the Mets were +2000 for the 2022 World Series. Let’s see how much that spikes in the coming days after they have signed Max along with 3 other solid free agents.
Major Losers:
- LA Dodgers, who lost Mad Max to free agency and now have a big hole to fill in their rotation
- The NL East, who now has to face Mad Max on a routine basis
- LA Angels & SF Giants who missed out on the top FA of the offseason
Major Winners:
- NY Mets, who have the top 2 pitchers in all of baseball in my opinion
- Mad Max, who set the record for AAV for any player of all time and gets the best #2 SP of all time behind him
- Jacob DeGrom, who gets to likely slide back to a #2 SP and might finally start getting run support because he isn’t the top dog all the time
