Two Former Yankees Get New Life: Frazier & Odor

Two players who suited up in pinstripes in 2021 will be wearing different uniforms in 2022. Clint Frazier and Rougned Odor are the two I am referring to. Both were non-tendered by the Yankees recently and did not take long to latch on with new clubs. Both are players that used to have a ton of promise and could have strong bounce-back years with their new clubs.

Firstly, Rougned Odor, who signed a contract with the Orioles which they will only have to pay him the league minimum, as the Rangers are still on the hook for his salary. Odor has had a very up and down career but has shown power many times in his career and could be a very smart pickup for the Orioles, who are hoping he goes on a tear in the first half and is able to be flipped at the trade deadline for prospects. I would not count this out, he is one I will be keeping an eye on this season.

The other is even more interesting. Clint Frazier, the former top prospect of the Yankees, was non-tendered this offseason after an abysmal 2021 season, but he has shown tons of promise in previous years. The Cubs took a flyer on him, signing him for $1.5M with another possible $1M in incentives. Frazier is also still controlled through arbitration after this season, so if he bounces back strong for the Cubs, they could have just gotten a controlled all-star for a very small price. That of course hinges on him finally breaking out, but that is not something I am ruling out for Frazier, a very talented outfielder.
